Digimon World
Platform: Sony Playstation
Availability: Currently available
Street Price: $40.00
Description/Review:

DIGIMON WORLD is an RPG/Adventure game for the Playstation console system. It comes with a 3D MetalGreymon playing card with the purchase. Currently it costs around $39.99.
Digimon World combines raising a Digimon with exploring and fighting. Owners of the original Ban-Dai Digital Pets can relate to the feeding, training, and cleaning of a Digimon, but now in a 3D environment! But, as you train, you can explore different areas, solve puzzles, and play a few mini-games. Gameplay is exciting and you might find yourself playing for hours.

I think this game was created very well. The graphics are stunning, the controls are good, and it has a high replay factor. There are many different Digimon to recieve due to Digivolution. Each Digimon character is very well drawn and animated, though in my opinion, some of the Digimon's heads are too big for thier bodies.

The game's main (and probably only) weak point is the storyline. It's the normal "the world is going to end and you have to save it". But that is probably only because most of the game is spent on the Digimon's care, and exploring.

So, if you're looking for a game that will last you a long time (unlike some RPG's, which take less than a week to conquer), Digimon World will be the game to have.

Need Help?
Here is a bit of help for people who are beginning the game.

DIGIVOLUTION -
Digivolution is based on 3 main ideas. Parameters, Weight, and Care Mistakes. Parameters are the Digimon's main statuses, among them are HP, MP, Offense, Defense, Speed, and Intellegence. Parameters can be raised at the Green Gym, located next to File City, or you can raise certain parameters at key points in the game.

Weight may not seem like a big factor in Digivolving at first, but as you get a feel for the game and how the Digivolving process works, you will realize weight does indeed play a part in a Digimon's growth. To obtain certain kinds of Digimon, you must have the weight level set to a certain point. For example, Angemon is a fairly light Digimon of around 20 (pounds?), while Monochromon is a heavier Digimon of around 30 or more. If you want a certain Digimon, you must sum up about how heavy it is and adjust weight accordingly. Food will add to weight, while training depletes it.

Care Mistakes are a big part in Digivolving. What are care mistakes? Well, if your Digimon becomes hungry and you fail to feed it right away, that could be considered a care mistake. Another example is not letting it rest or sleep when needed. To recieve a powerful Digimon, you must try to recieve less care mistakes, better yet none at all.

Regardless of your training, your Digimon will fade (in other words, die) at around 13-15 days, unless you sucessfully Digivolve to the Ultimate stage. You Digimon may also die of mistreatment (Losing 3 battles, Sadness & Discipline, too many care mistakes, sickness). But, do not fret. When the Digimon dies, it will always give birth to a Digitama (Digimon Egg). Make sure that you keep all the stats in good condition, as if your Digimon dies of old age, the Digitama will get to keep all the attacks that the parent has learned in its lifetime. Also, if the Digimon dies of old age, you get to choose which Digitama you want (1st egg is Botamon, 2nd is Tsunomon, 3rd is Puyomon, and 4th is Yuramon). A Digimon that dies of mistreatment will give birth to a Digitama chosen at random, and that Digitama will not recieve all of the parent's learned attacks.

Now that you know a little about Digivolution, you can recieve differnt kinds of Digimon and experiment with the kinds you like.
